WANT TO SELL YOUR SCRIPT? (TRY 20 LITERARY AGENTS… I like #9 & #12)

Hello Writers. Want a Hollywood Literary Agent?

Yes, you truly need an agent, to be specific a literary agent, to get you (A) script coverage, to get you (B) into the right doors, to be able to (C) pitch.

However, you’ve heard that no true agency, with a Literary Department, will even allow you into their mailroom.

Now, what do you do?

Answer: You disregard that statement (“no one will talk to you”) and plow forward… assuming you’ve (A) written the great script and (B) properly registered and copyrighted it to CYA. And maybe you focus on the small mom-and-pop licensed agencies in Hollywood that you have likely never heard of..

But you don’t just give one a call, get nowhere and then quit.

Try a minimum of 20 literary agents. 20 is a solid test and something will happen. One is a good excuse to quit

Now, what’s your game plan for phoning Literary Agents. First decision is do you go for the Big ones, the Boutique ones or the small ones?

NY-AGENTS-2

Lets go step-by-step. I got this graphic from “Google Images” and I’m not sure what the “7 Things Screenplay Agents Really Want” but I do know….

Have a great idea? Get an Agent/Agency?

Have a Treatment? Get an Agent/Agency?

Have a Screenplay? Get an Agent/Agency?

Want Writing Gigs? Get an Agent/Agency?

Win a Script Contest like Nicholls? Get an Agent/Agency?

Write Great Dialogue? Get an Agent/Agency?

I think you get the point.

You have heard over-and-over that if you want a career as a screenwriter, or as a hyphen (Writer-Director, Writer-Producer, Writer-Director, Writer-Filmmaker) that you need an agent or an agency, with credibility and contacts, to represent you.

But you keep reaching out to anyone you meet who says the word “Hollywood” and ask “Do you know any agents”.

Well stop asking for I am about to give you 20. Yes 20 Literary Agencies that are in Los Angeles/Hollywood.

20 HOLLYWOOD LITERARY AGENTS

And, I am going to give them to you in reverse alphabetical order.

Thus, these are the ones that don’t get hit up on as often as the Big 6 (APA, ICM, CAA, WME, UTA, TGA, etc.) or the ones that start with the letter A in the alphabet…

Who knows? Give it a shot? Lightening could strike?

I am going to give you them without (A) their website, (B) their e-mail address or (C) phone number.

Why? Because you need to do a little homework yourself. Google and discover.

The saying is “You can lead a horse to water… but you can’t make him drink”.

CONCLUSION:

After you have (A) written your screenplay, (B) re-written it and made it great, (C) registered and copyrighted it, (D) perfected your pitch and are ready to sell it you will more than likely need a literary agent.

Then, instead of trying the Big 7 agencies, with 100-500 agents, why not try a Mom-n-Pop licensed agency… who might actually pick up the phone and say “Hello”, when you call.

QUESTION:

Please share if any of you have tried cold-calling literary agents.

Comment on whether you should try a Small Agency (2-5 staff), a Boutique Agency (10-30 staff), or a Power Broker Agency (100-500 staff)?

Happy Filmmaking.

Lists are total wank. None of them exist, apart from that, a great fucking service. Take your hard-won filmic stripes BS and write a fucking movie, sell it, then tell us how you did. Stop wasting our time

As mentioned above, this list is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME. Most of them are linked to agencies that have moved or no longer exist. They are all linked to secondary sites like Linkedin or Backstage, no direct links.
